Waste less today for a more sustainable tomorrow
Wasting less and enhancing the value of waste within your company is a fundamental step to make a contribution to environmental sustainability. Granarolo is well aware of this and, as part of its sustainability plan, has for several years been seeking the support of Herambiente Group in order to significantly reduce the amount of industrial waste it produces and to give new life to waste already produced, thus reducing the environmental impact of its production processes.
Together to build commendable models of recovery and recycling
Like many companies in the dairy sector, the Granarolo Group's production cycle generated a quantity of pre-packaged products that did not meet sales requirements, thus producing a large amount of waste that was sent to waste-to-energy plants for disposal.
In order to achieve a significant improvement in the system, both in terms of environmental sustainability and costs, the Herambiente Group, through its subsidiaries HASI - Herambiente Servizi Industriali and Aliplast, stepped in and proposed a comprehensive waste management system. Aliplast took care of the recycling of PET bottles and preforms, PELD film and other plastic waste, while HASI, through its Global Waste Management service, improved recovery performance on almost all the waste produced, handling hazardous and non-hazardous waste, mixed packaging and other production waste. The added value of the collaboration lies above all in the high value-added services provided by HASI to support the specific needs of each plant with approval process support, dedicated project managers, supplier partnerships and supply chain improvement plans.
A fruitful evolving partnership
Since 2020, the collaboration between Granarolo and HASI has made further progress with the activation of the Operation&Maintenance service for the treatment plant of the Bologna plant. This service, integrated with the GWM offer, consists of the on-site management and maintenance of private waste and wastewater treatment plants supporting Granarolo's production cycle and the development of projects for the improvement and construction of new customised treatment plants.
The results
The partnership between Granarolo and the companies of the Herambiente Group has borne fruit, making a concrete contribution to reducing the company's environmental impact for the benefit of the local communities, people and the planet.
