An area in San Giovanni in Persiceto has been restored and returns back to the citizens

After a long process and a reclamation carried out by Herambiente, a site in the suburban town has been brought back to optimal conditions.

The citizens of San Giovanni in Persiceto (BO) can once again benefit from an important urban space. This is an area in Via Samoggia, near the Samoggia river, where once there was an illegal landfill of hazardous waste. Now the area has been completely restored, thanks to the commitment of the municipality and the work of Herambiente, which from 2015 to the present day has completed the remediation work.

The origins of the case date back to 2001, when in the area, then privately owned, were found by the State Forestry Corps large quantities of pollutants industrial sludge. In 2007, the Municipality carried out a first safety intervention to replace the responsible for the pollution. When in 2015 the municipal administration of San Giovanni in Persiceto expropriated the area and took over as the owner, it started the remediation works, with resources made available by the Region. In 2016 the European Commission certified the reclamation of the site, deciding that it should be removed from the infringement procedure. Subsequently, thanks to an allocation of more than 3.3 million euros by the Ministry of the Environment (through the Fund for Development and Cohesion 2014-2020), a second phase of work was carried out. It was completed in October. The important remediation work was carried out by Herambiente in partnership with the company ACR Reggiani, regional excellence in remediation activities, and involved the removal and proper treatment of more than 52,000 tons of material.
