EMAS certifications/registrations

Herambiente’s certifications meet internationally recognised voluntary standards, such as those issued by the ISO (International Organization for Standardization) for 14001, 9001, 22005, 50001 and by the BSI (British Standard Institution) for 18001, and EU standards in the case of EMAS registration, which is carried out through a specific legislative instrument, Regulation (EC) No 1221/2009.

The standards establish the requirements that must be met by an organisation for implementing a quality management system (UNI EN ISO 9001), an environmental management system (UNI EN ISO14001), energetic system (UNI CEI EN ISO 50001) and an occupational health and safety management system (OHSAS 18001).

As early as 2003, the Environment Division* of Hera S.p.A. has been following a course of progressive ISO 14001 certification of the plants that it manages, and this process is then integrated into the wider certification project for the entire Hera Group.

In 2005, again under the aegis of Hera S.p.A. - Environment Division, the “EMAS Project” was launched with the aim of progressive EMAS registration of the plant-related sites managed by the company.

With the birth of Herambiente, the certification and registration processes found a natural continuation in the new company.

Herambiente is currently ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 certified, while there are 23 EMAS registered sites, corresponding to more than 40 waste management plants.

In 2009, Herambiente also obtained SOA certification for the execution of public works in relation to categories OG12 and OG14, classes VII and VIII respectively.

The commitment of the “Quality, Safety and Environment” structure is seen in the maintenance and progressive implementation of certifications for Herambiente, in order to adopt all the necessary instruments to contribute to the protection of the environment, resources, and employee health and safety.

* The Environment Division of the Hera Group was absorbed into Herambiente from 1 July 2009.
