EMAS certifications/registrations

Herambiente’s and its subsidiaries certifications meet internationally recognised voluntary standards, such as those issued by the ISO (International Organization for Standardization) for 14001, 9001 and by the BSI (British Standard Institution) for 18001, and EU standards in the case of EMAS registration, which is carried out through a specific legislative instrument, Regulation (EC) No 1221/2009.

The standards establish the requirements that must be met by an organisation for implementing a quality management system (UNI EN ISO 9001), an environmental management system (UNI EN ISO14001), and an occupational health and safety management system (OHSAS 18001).

As early as 2003, the Environment Division* of Hera S.p.A. has been following a course of progressive ISO 14001 certification of the plants that it manages, and this process is then integrated into the wider certification project for the entire Hera Group.

In 2005, again under the aegis of Hera S.p.A. - Environment Division, the “EMAS Project” was launched with the aim of progressive EMAS registration of the plant-related sites managed by the company.

With the birth of Herambiente, the certification and registration processes found a natural continuation in the new company.

Herambiente is currently ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 certified, while there are 19 EMAS registered sites, corresponding to more than 30 waste management plants. In addition, there are also EMAS registered sites of the Group's subsidiaries.

In 2009, Herambiente also obtained SOA certification for the execution of public works in relation to categories OG12 and OG14, classes VII and VIII respectively.

In 2018 Herambiente also achieved sustainability certification of the biomethane produced for automotive use at the Sant'Agata Bolognese site, according to the "National Certification Scheme for Biofuels and Bioliquids".

Every single cubic metre of biomethane will have a place of origin and the characteristics of the waste from which it was produced, guaranteeing the maximum transparency of the production process, as a result of the traceability and mass balance system implemented in accordance with the above-mentioned National Scheme.

The commitment of the “Quality, Safety and Environment” structure is seen in the maintenance and progressive implementation of certifications for Herambiente and its subsidiaries, in order to adopt all the necessary instruments to ensure the accuracy of procedures, production processes and traceability of waste treated, as well as to contribute to the protection of the environment, resources, and employee health and safety.

Lastly, it should be noted that from September 2018, the internal laboratory of the Santa Croce sull'Arno (PI) headquarters, which became part of Herambiente Servizi Industriali S.r.l. following the merger by incorporation of Waste Recycling with effect from 1 July 2019, was accredited in accordance with UNI CEI EN ISO/IEC 17025.

The laboratory of the subsidiary Herambiente Servizi Industriali, with the accreditation, proves its competence in the management of test methods, instrumentation, data processing and documentation.

Test reports for samples of various environmental matrices (wastewater, waste, contaminated soil) bear the ILAC ACCREDIA brand.

The Herambiente Servizi Industriali Analysis Laboratory is accredited with the ACCREDIA number 1721L.

* The Environment Division of the Hera Group was absorbed into Herambiente from 1 July 2009.
