Overview
The plant in Maniago, Pordenone deals with the storage and treatment of special hazardous and non hazardous liquid, solid, powdery and muddy waste, through which it produces alternative solid and liquid fuels.
The platform consists of:
• Acceptance, control and sampling of incoming materials (each package)
• Laboratory for waste approval, reception, production control
• Storage section for hazardous and non hazardous waste
• Liquid fuel production sector
• Solid fuel production sectors
• Contaminated packaging sorting and treatment sector
• Water collection sector
• Transfer and repackaging sector

The waste received in the plant can undergo different types of processing according to laboratory instructions: unpacking, repackaging (for both solid and liquid waste), amalgamation, homogenisation, grinding, screening, sorting and separation.

Following the approval procedure of the waste carried out during contract definition with customers, specific control procedures for incoming materials are implemented at the plant.
During the approval phase, the methods of packaging and handling of the materials that the customer will commit to the plant are defined. Any waste collected by Recycla is collected through closed packaging or boxes with a lid in order to limit odour emissions or the creation of dangerous vapours.
The waste admitted to the plant, whether packages, bins or bulk, are always subjected to control and analysis; each package, bin, tank of incoming material is opened, checked and sampled to verify compliance with the existing approvals and the subsequent reception phase. After the control phase, waste is labelled and stored in the designated areas waiting to be treated.

Waste in drums, containers, bins or bulk is stored in separate areas according to the treatments it must undergo and is checked to see if it is dangerous or reactive in order to ensure the maximum safety of the entire structure. The areas intended for the storage of flammable waste are compartmentalised and equipped with additional foam fire extinguishing systems. All warehouses are equipped with a deluge fire protection system and additional foam extinguishing systems. All waste processing plants are equipped with automatic foam fire extinguishing systems.
Waste storage takes place exclusively inside warehouses with reinforced concrete flooring equipped with floor waterproofing systems. All sectors of waste processing are under depression and equipped with an air treatment system in order to prevent the emission of potentially harmful or polluting substances.

Since 90% of the waste entering the plant is used for the production of solid and liquid fuels, Recycla requires its own internal laboratory to:
define the suitability of waste to be managed at the site when being approved;
verify the compliance of the incoming material with what has been approved
based on the characteristics of the material, carry out merger tests aimed at issuing the instructions for production
constantly check the quality of the material during production
certify the suitability for shipment of fuel and waste not suitable for the production of alternative fuels

After the laboratory has issued the processing instructions within a specific sector through the use of a machine operating in an inert atmosphere, the mechanical emptying and subsequent amalgamation of solvent based liquid and sludge waste is carried out.
The material obtained is stored in stirred tanks until shipment by tanker truck.

The production of solid fuel takes place in 2 confined sectors characterised by a waterproofed bottom and a suction system with a smoke treatment system by means of a bag filter and an activated carbon filter. Materials are amalgamated and mechanically homogenised using earthmoving machines in one sector, and the waste gets grinded in the other. The grinding system consists of 2 single rotor grinders that primarily grind and refine. The material produced is then sent to closed storage warehouses where it is extracted and loaded automatically.
Besides the grinding system, transport systems, storage warehouses and fire extinguishing systems installed by law, additional foam extinguishing systems activated automatically by video surveillance systems have been installed.

Contaminated packaging is divided by type of material in a dedicated sector and is sent to a sorting room inside which the fractions that can be sent to material recovery and the material that can't be grinded are separated. Unsuitable material is grinded inside a dual rotor grinder positioned downstream of the sorting belt. The grinded material is then sent to a tumbling section for the removal of contaminants.
The plant is equipped with automatic weighing systems and electronic control systems. The entire system is equipped with an additional foam fire extinguishing system.

Water from customers can be delivered in packages or by tanker. Following the check, the water in packs can be stored in the warehouse or sent to processing in the specific sector after it is received.
The processing sector in which the water is collected is equipped with 6 stainless steel tanks of which 4 have a net capacity of 30 m3 and 2 have a net capacity of 15 m3. The tanks are installed inside 2 containment basins and the vents are connected to the air treatment system.

The repackaging transfer is carried out inside a depressed cabin equipped with suction arms for the suction of any emissions next to the package being processed and a machine for the automatic emptying of small packages. The following are subject to this type of activity:

The sorting operation takes place inside a depressed cabin. The packages are opened, sampled, checked and placed on a suction table. Based on the results of the control, they are divided and repackaged for subsequent processing or sent for thermodestruction.
