Automobili Lamborghini and Herambiente join forces for the circular economy

At Ecomondo 2025, Automobili Lamborghini and Herambiente presented their ongoing projects for the global management of waste at the Sant’Agata Bolognese plant, with the aim of increasing material recovery (already at 80%) and developing high-tech circular economy initiatives.

At the Ecomondo fair, seven Super Robots, each over four metres tall and built from production waste from Lamborghini supercars, were the symbols of the collaboration between the Italian supercars manufacturer and Herambiente for the comprehensive, integrated and sustainable management of industrial waste.
In particular, the Bull company has entrusted Herambiente with the management of the entire special waste cycle at the Sant'Agata Bolognese plant until 2028: approximately 3,500 tonnes per year, with a material recovery rate of 80% in 2024, which can be further increased. The contract, renewed for the three-year period 2025-2028 after an initial assignment in 2022, aims to minimise disposal and valorise waste according to efficiency criteria, ensuring traceability and safety. A particularly important aspect of the global waste management agreement concerns regulatory compliance, managed on a turnkey basis by Herambiente (including the new RENTRI system, the National Electronic Waste Traceability Register). The agreement also covers the classification and safe disposal of obsolete waste, the certified destruction of prototypes and components, the demolition of assets that are no longer usable and the reuse of pallets in lithium battery boxes. The optimisation of loads and transport will have a positive impact both in economic terms and on atmospheric emissions.
Circularity and Net Zero: the commitment of Automobili Lamborghini and the Hera Group
The collaboration with Herambiente is part of Automobili Lamborghini's structured ESG approach, which has already seen the Sant'Agata Bolognese plant obtain carbon neutrality certification in 2015, maintained over the years despite the doubling of production areas. This result is the fruit of an integrated strategy combining direct emissions reduction, offsetting projects and investments in energy efficiency. The agreement with Herambiente reinforces this commitment: on the one hand, it ensures specialised waste management aimed at maximising resource recovery, and on the other, it contributes to reducing indirect emissions linked to logistics and treatment. In 2024, the waste sent for recovery by Automobili Lamborghini grew by 15%, exceeding 80% of total volumes. The mother brand Hera Group is a partner that is fully aligned on this front: the multi-utility company is aiming for Net Zero by 2050, with an overall reduction in climate-changing emissions of 90% compared to 2019. The joint projects – comprehensive waste management, resource regeneration and the SCART art project – testify to a shared vision between the two groups, in which the circular economy is a technical, environmental and cultural lever.
Project consistent with the strategy of creating shared value
"The collaboration with Automobili Lamborghini best expresses our model of integrated and tailor-made services, capable of combining sustainability and competitiveness. At the heart of this is the joint search for innovative solutions to recover high added-value materials and reduce the carbon footprint: a distinctive feature of our approach to global waste management, which is particularly effective in complex industrial contexts such as the automotive industry,” says Andrea Ramonda, CEO of Herambiente. “This commitment is part of the Group's shared value creation strategy, which leverages Herambiente's investments and know-how in circular economy projects. One example is the FIB3R plant in Imola, Europe's first industrial-scale carbon fibre regeneration plant, designed to support the ecological transition in technology-intensive sectors such as motorsport, boating and aerospace".
“For Automobili Lamborghini, the focus on sustainability translates into processes and solutions that must meet the same quality standards as our cars,” adds Ranieri Niccoli, Chief Manufacturing Officer at Automobili Lamborghini. “The projects shared with the Hera Group stem from a common vision: to integrate industrial solidity and environmental innovation in a manner consistent with our ESG path."
