Aliplast and CDC Studio: recycled plastic is fashionable
Together to reuse polyethylene in tailoring
Aesthetic quality with an eye to sustainability
"My experiments with recovered materials began in 2010”, says Cristina di Carlo, owner of CDC Studio. “Over the past ten years, I have honed both my skills as a designer and the craftsman's skills that are needed to work with innovative materials like plastics. The turning point came when I found Aliplast: for the first time, I found a partner who was able to provide me with suitable products both from the point of view of aesthetic quality and robustness, without forgetting sustainability.” The material provided by Aliplast is polyethylene film, which is then processed by CDC Studio to achieve the specific qualities required for use in tailoring. In this form, the film is renamed "COéO" and is covered by a patent (currently undergoing approval). The outerwear from the CDC Studio collection has a refined character and is designed to fit the female silhouette with an elegant, timeless style. For this reason, the materials must have good characteristics in terms of strength and durability. The Tuscan company operates in two main areas: on the one hand, the COéO film is used to create items such as bags, shoes, jackets and shoulder coverings, which are marketed through distribution networks and e commerce channels; on the other hand, the film is sold as raw material to textile industries, which in turn use it to make clothing and accessories. The entire process is based on maximum sustainability and represents a case of virtuous circle. The material can potentially be recovered and recycled once the garment is discarded. "We've started with great energy; the garments have been successfully presented during the last edition of the Milan Fashion Week, and sales have already started through distributors. We've attracted interest from several industry players who are looking to purchase the fabric. We hope this partnership with Aliplast will continue for many years.”

A collaboration with a long-term outlook
The collaboration with CDC Studio is still in its early stages; among the projects being explored is the use of different types of polymers to create fabrics, with the goal of further expanding the range of environmentally-friendly garments offered by the company. Using its own products to create clothing marks Aliplast's entry into an untapped sector, one that offers promising development potential.
