Herambiente presents Europe’s first plant for the regeneration of carbon fibre on an industrial scale and challenges innovators to develop new industrial applications

The Herambiente Group is taking part in Composites Future 2026 – from 9 to 12 June at Fieramilano Hall 18, booth B36 – with the FIB3R project, Europe’s first industrial-scale carbon fibre regeneration plant. Composites Future, a biennial exhibition and conference resulting from the collaboration between Assocompositi – the Italian Association of Composites and Related Materials – and Xylexpo, aims to be the showcase for the entire world of composites. During the exhibition, Herambiente will also present the “FIB3R call4innovators”: an initiative aimed at engaging industry innovators and identifying new applications and products developed using the regenerated carbon fibre produced by the plant.
Located in Imola, in the heart of Motor Valley, FIB3R is an advanced technological platform that enables the recovery and valorisation of various types of carbon fibre composite waste through an innovative pyrolysis process, transforming them into a new raw material with high mechanical performance and a significantly lower environmental impact compared to virgin fibre. The project is based on the principles of the circular economy, summarised in the Recover, Reduce, Reuse model: a virtuous cycle that reduces resource consumption, minimises waste and generates new industrial opportunities from materials with high technological value.
The presence at Composites Future will provide an opportunity for direct engagement with the entire composites supply chain. During the exhibition, Herambiente will also share application case studies ranging from the automotive and aerospace sectors to the marine industry, highlighting how regenerated carbon fibre can represent a concrete and competitive solution for numerous industrial sectors.
FIB3R Call4Innovation: applications open until July 19
FIB3R Call4Innovation is the initiative promoted by Herambiente, together with the Hera Group’s Open Innovation team and with operational support from Plug and Play: it seeks to engage the European innovation ecosystem in the development of new applications for regenerated carbon fibre. The Call is aimed at start-ups, companies, research centres, universities and design studios interested in developing sustainable industrial solutions that are technologically advanced and have concrete market potential. The goal is to identify scalable projects capable of further enhancing the value of a strategic material, contributing to the creation of new circular supply chains and the spread of more efficient and sustainable production models, particularly in the automotive, aerospace, sports, design and civil engineering sectors. Through a dedicated platform (https://ha.gruppohera.it/fib3r-call4innovation), participants will be able to submit their projects and access a structured evaluation and selection process. The best solutions will have the opportunity to engage directly with the Herambiente Group and initiate concrete industrial collaborations, including through flexible and scalable partnership models.
Through FIB3R and Call4Innovation, Herambiente reaffirms its commitment to promoting industrial innovation and the transition towards an advanced circular economy, providing expertise, technological assets and integration capabilities across the entire value chain.
