Waste less today for a more sustainable tomorrow

Wasting less and valorising waste within your company is a fundamental step to make a contribution to environmental sustainability.

Ducati is well aware of this. Since 2022, in line with its sustainability plan, the company has been requesting the support of the Hera Group with the aim of giving new life to waste in order to mitigate the environmental impact of its production processes.

Together for the recovery of industrial waste

Thanks to the partnership with Herambiente Servizi Industriali, the largest Italian company dedicated to the management of industrial waste, Ducati has implemented a highly efficient treatment plan, which in 2022 led the company based in Borgo Panigale, near Bologna, to start recovering 98% of the waste produced by its activities. The process adopted by Ducati and Hasi covers every aspect of waste management, from the separation of waste at the time it is produced, to logistical optimisation and the maximisation of recycling.

The waste managed, together with cardboard, plastic or mixed packaging (sometimes also classified as hazardous), also includes special and complex materials such as, for example, the filters used for smoke abatement. These waste materials, when properly treated, can also be recovered in this case, through energy recovery via waste-to-energy conversion.

Energy: efficiency through trigeneration

Another concrete initiative developed with Hera is the establishment of the trigeneration plant at Ducati's Borgo Panigale headquarters operated by Hera Servizi Energia (HSE). The facility provides electricity, heating and cooling while significantly reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.
In 2022, the plant generated 13,159 MWh of electricity, covering 83% of the plant's total energy consumption. The remaining part of the electricity required by the plant is purchased externally by Ducati, exclusively from renewable sources.
Since its commissioning in 2016, the trigeneration plant has prevented the emission of 9,369 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere, of which 1,508 tonnes in 2022 alone. To put this into context, that's the equivalent of the emissions from roughly 3,000 flights between New York and Rome, or the annual carbon absorption of a forest covering about 250 hectares
