Integrated and tailor made solutions for agri food waste
Optimising your production process in order to minimise waste at all stages of production is the first step towards greater industrial sustainability and an improvement in companies' green performance. Fruttagel's activitiesconsist in transforming agri food products into packaged products for the consumer. A part of its processing waste, about 1,500 tonnes per year, consists of products with brik packaging. Over the years, the company has tried various solutions to separate the organic part from the polylaminate, but the results have never been optimal: they were only able to recover the organic fraction and send it for biodigestion, while the packaging was sent to waste to energy facilities.
Together to recover 100% of waste
The company needed to modify the waste flow in order to recover both materials. Hasi's intervention proved decisive: an intermediate operation was introduced in the waste treatment process to pre-treat the polylaminate, which was then sent to the sorting plant for recovery. From there, the material to be used in paper mills is recovered, while compost, used in agriculture, or biomethane is obtained from the biodigester. This way, polylaminate waste and its organic content become once again part of the production process, transforming waste into a real resource.
