Overview
The treatment facility in Schio (Vicenza) is designed to process liquid waste and industrial sludge. Located in the municipality's industrial zone, the plant comprises two distinct treatment sections: a physicochemical section for liquid waste water, consisting of two separate continuous clarification flocculation lines and a sludge drying section, where industrial sludge is processed using a physicochemical thermal drying method.

Authorised treatment capacity:
120,000 t/year (input) of liquid and sludge waste, plus 10,000 t/year (input) of sludge waste for the drying line; 600,500 m^3/year (input) of wastewater from external operations. -
Accepted waste:
Liquid and sludge waste (such as waste from cleaning street gullies and septic tanks; sludge from physicochemical treatments and production processes; landfill leachate; process water and mother liquors)
This section performs clarification and flocculation using flocculants and heavy metal complexing agents, followed by precipitation in a settling tank with polyelectrolyte dosing. The clarified effluent is pumped to the biological treatment section. The resulting sludge is sent for thickening and subsequently dewatered using a centrifuge.
The plant consists of two lines. Each treatment line has a capacity of approximately 25 m³/h. Following physico-chemical treatment, the water is fed into a biological treatment section equipped with oxidation, denitrification, and sedimentation tanks.
After biological treatment, the wastewater is conveyed to the final treatment unit. The treated and filtered water is discharged into a surface water body.
Sludge drying section
The plant has a treatment capacity of 10,000 t/year and is used partly to treat waste from third parties and partly to treat sludge from the internal drying section.
The sludge drying process utilizes a belt dryer connected to a storage silo for the dried material.
