Herambiente Group and Menarini Group
A collaboration dedicated to sustainability
Together to produce regenerated solvents
In total compliance with current legislation on the subject, HASI can identify multiple opportunities for material or energy recovery, with the utmost attention to management costs. The Menarini Group is an international pharmaceutical company present in over 100 countries, including more than 70 with a direct presence. It operates in Europe, Central America, Africa, the Middle East and Asia and has an annual turnover of over $4.2 billion. HASI has long collaborated with Menarini, constantly structuring and improving the management of waste produced in plants in Italy, aiming at maximum material recovery, reducing industrial waste and identifying the types of solvents suitable for regeneration. These flows are constantly monitored through the timely sampling of all waste inputs to the treatment plants. The HASI laboratory, located in the operational headquarters in Castelfranco di Sotto (Pisa), is able to dynamically and quickly carry out analyses on the waste produced, including solvents.

The importance of waste traceability
In this specific case, the samples, subjected to analytical screening, have generated over the years a detailed database on the quantities and types of solvents present in the waste flows. The collaboration between Menarini's production technicians and HASI's technicians has led to the identification of different types of solvents and production lines that generated waste in accordance with the regeneration treatment. The awareness-raising and data collection activities have enabled the client to refine the identification of these rejects, optimising the recovery process as much as possible. Producing regenerated solvents is not only an economically sustainable action, but also a concrete example of a circular economy, capable of giving new life to this type of waste.
