Overview
The plant in Torrebelvicino, Vicenza, deals with the storage and treatment of special liquid and solid hazardous and non hazardous waste. The platform consists of the storage, selection, sorting and mixing of hazardous and non hazardous waste section, the stabilisation and solidification system and the chemical physical system for liquids. The waste received in the plant can undergo different types of processing: unpacking, repackaging (both for solid and liquid waste), volumetric reduction, mixing and homogenisation, stabilisation/solidification treatment.

The platform consists of the following sections:
• storage areas and boxes;
• flammables storage area;
• liquid storage tanks;
• sorting and selection;
• mixing boxes and tanks;
• waste grinding and pressing system;
• inerting/solidifying system;
• chemical-physical treatment system;
Specific waste control procedures are applied both when contracts are drawn up with customers (the approval phase) and as disposals are received at the plant. Correspondence between the quality of the incoming waste and the respective approval is verified by means of visual and analytical checks carried out periodically and spot sampling the waste. If necessary, after the control phase, waste is labelled and stored in the designated areas waiting to be treated, recovered, repackaged and sent to external plants.

Waste in drums, containers or bulk is stored in separate areas according to the treatment it must undergo and it is checked to see if dangerous, flammable or reactive in order to ensure the maximum safety of the entire structure.
The areas for the storage of dust-producing waste are confined and placed under suction and the sucked air is sent to activated carbon purification systems and scrubbers depending on the type of waste stored.
Waste accepted for storage can be sent to: unpacking; repackaging of solid and liquid waste; volumetric reduction in mobile grinding system; mixing and homogenisation; inertisation and solidification;
All the processes described above take place in rooms with a waterproofed bottom and, depending on the needs, in environments kept under depression in which the sucked air is sent to wet (scrubber) and activated carbon treatment systems.

These operations are carried out inside the liquid waste treatment system within a collection basin area that can contain any spills.
The loading/emptying of the tanks is ensured by the use of pneumatic pumps. Liquid waste mixing operations are also authorised in this area.

Manual sorting of non-hazardous solid waste is carried out in a dedicated area. Volumetric reduction is ensured by the use of a grinder. The waste is then sent to a pressing machine.
The compacting of hazardous and non-hazardous solid waste is carried out in a confined area with a sealed floor, in order to create mixes and prepare it for final disposal. For this operation, a grinder with hydraulic controls is used.
