Overview
The HEA (Hera ed Eni per l'Ambiente) platform in Ravenna is a strategic infrastructure for industrial waste treatment, designed to address the shortage of special waste plants in Italy. With an annual capacity of 60,000 tons, the plant manages up to 45,000 tons of hazardous and non hazardous waste, both solid and liquid, originating from production activities and environmental remediation. Through five dedicated lines for shredding, mixing, and the chemical physical treatment of liquids, HEA aims to minimize disposal and maximize material and energy recovery in compliance with European directives. The joint venture between Herambiente and Eni Rewind combines unique expertise in waste management, offering the Ravenna area an excellent production chain that prevents the exportation of waste abroad.
Discover the Ravenna Environmental District
The HEA plant, operationally managed by Herambiente Servizi Industriali, is located within the Ravenna Environmental District (CAR - Comparto Ambientale Ravenna), an area owned by ENI Rewind that underwent major environmental redevelopment of a decommissioned industrial site. Today, in addition to the HEA platform, the CAR hosts an ENI Plenitude photovoltaic plant and an ENI Rewind bio-remediation soil plant.
Local Development and Circular Economy
The new HEA Multi purpose Platform represents a redevelopment project of an already industrialized area without using new land, in line with European and national regulatory guidelines. Thanks to the adoption of the best available technologies, it has replaced the previous HASI platform, promoting synergies and forms of industrial symbiosis between the main production entities in the area and generating significant economies of scale. The platform has enabled an innovative and flexible response to the needs of local companies, offering advanced solutions for industrial waste management and treatment, including several streams from Eni Group plants and the Ravenna petrochemical district. Integrated into a circular economy framework, it has allowed for a reduction in the quantities destined for disposal, maximizing material and energy recovery through pre treatment and treatment operations. Furthermore, it has been equipped with advanced waste traceability systems and environmental certifications, ensuring high standards of transparency, control, and sustainability in managing the treated streams.
