New products from recycled carbon fibre
Herambiente is launching the FIB3R Call4Innovation to identify new applications and products developed using regenerated carbon fibre produced at the FIB3R plant in Imola (Bologna – Italy).
The initiative is aimed at members of the innovation ecosystem interested in collaborating on the development of sustainable industrial solutions that are technically advanced and have a real market potential. Automotive, aerospace, sport, design, civil engineering: we are looking for ideas that could open up new markets for regenerated carbon fibre.
What is FIB3R
FIB3R is Herambiente’s plant dedicated to the production of regenerated carbon fibre (rCF) through an innovative pyrolysis process.
The treated fibre comes from industrial waste, particularly from the Motor Valley district and sectors of excellence such as the automotive, aerospace and nautical industries. The regenerated fibre produced at the FIB3R plant guarantees excellent mechanical properties, retaining up to 95% of the elastic modulus, tensile strength and elongation at break compared to virgin carbon fibre, with a significantly lower environmental impact.
FIB3R represents an advanced technological platform to enable new circular production models and promote new application opportunities in manufacturing.

Requirements and selection criteria
Proposed projects will be assessed on the basis of criteria such as:
• technical quality of the proposal and consistency with the characteristics of the FIB3R material;
• innovativeness of the application and the proposed product;
• market potential and sustainability of the business case;
• prototyping and industrial capacity of the applicant;
• scalability of the solution and capacity to absorb significant quantities of rCF;
• track record, team expertise and the applicant's reliability.
The selection process aims to identify applicants with the technical and industrial expertise required for the actual development of the solution.
