Herambiente works in areas ranging from production activities to abandoned industrial areas, which are often impacted by conditions of prior contamination involving the soil, plants and/or groundwater. With its technical and scientific expertise and long-term experience, Herambiente is able to intervene in soils as well as aquifers contaminated by any type of organic or inorganic substance and to provide the following services:

The selection of Herambiente’s proposed solution takes into account the process of assessing environmental benefits, the cost sustainability of the various applicable techniques and the current and future intended use of the site. All activities are carried out with our properly trained operating personnel, work site supervisors with decades of experience in areas and plants with significant risk of incident and highly qualified partners.

Execution of environmental decontamination and remediation activities

  • In-situ activities carried out without moving or removing the contaminated matrix, such as:
    • Bioventing;
    • Air Sparging;
    • Soil vapor extraction;
    • Bioslurping;
    • Heat treatments;
    • Chemical oxidation;
    • Permeable reactive barriers;
    • Pump & treat.
  • On-site ex-situ activities carried out with movement and removal of polluted materials and soils, but involving treatment in the area of the site itself and possible re-use, such as:
    • Stabilisation and inertisation;
    • Soil washing;
    • Landfarming;
    • Biopiles.
  • Off-site ex-situ activities carried out with movement and removal of polluted materials and soils off site to have them processed in authorised treatment plants or sent to owned or third party landfills in Italy and abroad.

Implementation of safety measures

  • Implementation of emergency safety measures meant to temporarily remove and isolate sources of pollution in the event of accidental contamination such as:
    • Removal of waste, emptying of tanks and collection of spilled hazardous substances;
    • Aspiration of liquid pollutants;
    • Temporary covering and waterproofing of contaminated soils and land.
  • Implementation of operational safety measures meant to guarantee an adequate level of safety for people and the environment in sites with operational activities;
    • Fixed and mobile pumping and recovery systems;
    • Drainage trenches;
    • Ventilation systems for unsaturated subsoil and aquifers and gas extraction;
    • Vertical barriers or diaphragms;
    • Waterproofing and pollutant immobilisation systems.
  • Implementation of permanent safety measures meant to definitively isolate sources of pollution from the surrounding environmental matrices.
    • Perimeter containment;
    • "Capping";
    • Vertical barriers or diaphragms.
